Recently, I began collecting old Lesney and Matchbox cars after receiving a box of odds and sods from someone who was moving house and having a clear out. This set the ball rolling for me to begin collecting in earnest, favouring the pre-1980 models to all else. I've set out to purchase only those models that are complete (or only missing a few bits) but in poor condition. I'm not a traditional collector of toys, I prefer to take on damaged, unloved and battered examples and then bring them back to life through research and careful painting.

of the vehicles I restore will be played with, admittedly as desk toys,
which I think is quite important. Where's the sense in collecting
toys if one cannot play with them? Unless you're a museum, of course.
